Lit Nit Wit: The Lincoln Lawyer

Does it annoy anyone when they borrow/ buy books and they turn out to be not something you like at all?? The last two books I've read  have been like that and then I get kinda annoyed at myself for picking them. Thankfully I redeemed myself when I spotted and bought The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly. I got this book for three reasons:
1: It has Matthew McConaughey on the cover,
2: I figured it had to have been a good book if they made it into a movie
3: It cost approximately 1.50

Mickey  Haller is a twice divorced Defense Attorney who doesn't quite do things by the book but he's so likeably and funny and suave he gets away with it. He works for anyone who can pay, doesn't discriminate, and usually can wrangle anyone's charge down with a smirk and a good knowledge of the legal politics.

He is called in to defend a high paying client who claims innocence on the charges that are put before him but as Mickey starts to investigate is the Prince Charming as squeaky  clean as he claims??

I really liked this book I read it in one night shift!! I didn't think I'd be into this crime fiction stuff but this and I am Pilgrim are converting me, an easy read without being like chick lit-y, not that I have anything against chick lit!! :)

London and I 3

I promise this will be my last gush about London......for a while anyway :)

Food:
One of the main things I love about London is the food. I had planned to head straight to Giraffe on Embankment the minute I arrived, I may have gone to a Giraffe everyday I was in London,  I just love the place. After hearing Lily Pebbles talk and talk about The Breakfast Club I headed there too, I had pancakes and bacon (bacon and syrup is amazing). Le Pain Quotidien serves an awesome breakfast too and serves Bowls of coffee and I mean BOWLS. The Haagen Dazs restaurant is a cool (get it? ) place for dessert in Leister Square too

Friends: Other than the food...A huge reason I went over was to visit my friends. All the people in the photo are Irish friends that moved over there, mostly in the last year. It was great seeing them and it gives me an excuse to head over there again soon.

Love Fest: I only found out about this the day before I went to London when I was reading Zoey
Dechanels website and it was really a lovely way to start my trip. I'd heard of the Museum of Broken relationships before and to go and see all the mementos and the notes accompanying them is truley remarkable, there are shoes, hats, rings, teddy bears, even an unworn wedding dress. There was a place to write your own love confessions too. There was another room which was built like a 1970s office where the agony aunts from Jackie magazine replied to letters sent in. I spend a while laughing at the replies which were attached to the wall and again there was an area where people could leave notes this time answering Things I wish I'd known at 15.

Brick Lane: In all my years going to London I'd never been to Brick Lane. It is known for being cool for a reason!! While we were there, there was a graffiti exhibition on, and watching someone spray paint art is something I could do for hours. There was a load of galleries around the area and we saw a Banksy and a Warhol in the same Gallery. The only thing I'd say is DO NOT eat before you arrive like we did cause there's so much food there!!
Harry Potter at Warner Brothers Studios:         It was actually my dad that suggested we go to the studios. The rest of my family are going in August so I was the Guinea Pig to see what it was like. It is unbelieable, Diagon Alley, The Ministy of Magic, Dumbledoors office, The weasleys home, the list goes on! If you grew up with Harry Potter like I did or are any kind of fan, you'll truely enjoy it. I really almost cried three times..

I just thought these were funny.....

Ha ok Fangirling over London Finished, back to normal programming now... what even is that?? Have you been to London?

London and I Part 2: what I got in London (Haul)

I tried to be good shopping wise while in London and spend more on my trips to The London Dungeon and The Harry Potter experience (ill blog about them in more detail later this week) but then I got to Camden on my last day and within 30 minutes I accumulated a few items....
I couldn't leave the dungeon or the Harry potter experience without a souvenir either though

The day before I left for London I stopped at Boots for some mini shampoo conditioner and shower gel and I saw Bourjois was 2 for €19 and I was there for a good 7 minutes considering what I'd like, ultimately I decided against getting anything though I had my eye on the foundation and lip stains.
I popped my head into Boots in London and saw it was 2 for £14 which works out at about €17 I think so then my arm was turned and I got the Healthy Mix Foundation and Rogue Edition Velvet in Pink Pong. I've already worn both and I'm so glad I decided to get them

One make up brand I find difficult to find in Ireland is sleek make up and the last two times I've visited London a visit to Superdrug has been a necessity. Last time it was the contour kit and this trip it was the Blush by 3 in 'Lace' I really wanted to try out an orange blush and the other colours look lovely and wearable too.

I was never majorly into Revlon until the Lip Butters arrived and every blogger raved about them. I previously had candy apple and somehow lost it, it's a major thing if I repurchase anything and I also picked up Tutti Fruiti, I was just craving orange!

Clothes: it's a tradition of mine  to buy a t-shirt while I'm in London usually from Camden Market and this year is no exception. And three t-shirts and a jumper for £20 ??? Bargain
My trip to Camden came after my trip to The Warner Brothers Studios so Harry Potter was on my brain.  Fun fact  The Chanel double C is seen around Westminster street lamps and I have taken it as a good luck symbol for myself so that's why that tshirt was bought and finally The Beatles?? Abbey street obviously :)

I think I may have a doc Martin obsession, these shoes are a knockoff of actual docs but I've already gotten compliments on
them so when I walk a hole into these a purchase of actual docs will be happening .
As you can see there was two purchases from The Harry Potter expo; a time turner keyring and an iron on gryfindor crest for me to iron onto a cardigan. There is another keyring from 22b Baker Street and another key chain of me chopping off my brothers head who wouldn't want a photo of that.

There will be one more of about London a general synopsis of my trip.
Have you been to London??

London and I: Part 1

Yesterday I came back from my 4th trip to London since 2011 The length of these trips has varied from 3 days to 10 weeks, I worked in a bar in a hotel 3 years ago, during the riots actually, it was an interesting time in London but I digress. The night before last I was walking along where I used to live and I really thought about the time I was in the city as a 20 year old and what I learned from my time there and why I adore that place so much that I decided half way through my trip I was going to visit again in September.

The best part of the job has to be that the company provided board and meals for the staff, but especially the rooms, they were basic but who gives a damn when you're in London?? This way I was able to meet a group of people from all over the place, there was French, Hungarian, Australian, English, another Irish girl, Brazilian, Spanish really everywhere, and they were mostly so lovely, I had met one Hungarian on a Wednesday and the next day he invited me on a roadtrip to Stonehenge with 3 Australians, a Spaniard and a French man, it was on this trip where my nickname emerged for that summer, as one of the ozzies misheard Niamh.......as a word that rhymes with Bympho........... oh dear...

On my days off I could find myself anywhere, I once couldn't sleep so went for a walk to buckingham palace at five in the morning  and it was like being in an apocalyptic movie or something the sun was coming up but there was no one around it was so quiet and unnatural Ihad a friend from home who was in London at the same time and we had a date night every Sunday and we ended up at different markets and exhibitions and eating lists of weird and wonderful foods, if you go to Camden or any of  the foodmarkets  and don't have a crocodile burger or some other oddball food you are missing out in my opinion!

What I enjoyed the most I think was the fact that everyone was equal to everyone else. Some of us had degrees in something or other, some were on the way to getting them, some were finished with years, it meant nothing, the thing that was important was that we were all travelers getting out of home and seeing what was out there in the world, sharing themselves and their stories and everything they had basically to help their fellow travelers, I've seen this when staying in hostels over the years too.

One of the highlights of that trip was I met someone, it took 20 years to find someone who I didn't annoy and scare away, I was always the weird one in school and in college I didn't really want anyone like that anyway, not that there was a line of suitors knocking on my door anyway, but with him the timing seemed so good, I had made a card for my brother where I had happy birthday written in about 10 languages, and I asked him to write it in his, and the rest was history(vomit) from 2am till 4 pm almost everyday we were together watching drawn together or Big Bang theory just chilling out with the rest of our workmates or just together, me forever helping him with his English,

We made promises to see each other as I headed to the station to fly home to repeat an exam, but because of a mixture of lack of passports, and a muddle of misunderstandings on both our parts (we mixed up a meeting point when I was in London last and we both believed the other had strood the other up) but finally met up this past weekend in his place, just reminiscing about that summer acting like two old people (I now have a much better understanding on why reminiscing is so important)
It was so surreal seeing him again after all the time had passed and all the things I thought I'd say to him if I did ever see him again . The relationship of course was complicated and  at twice one of the two of us ended it but  Something else I discovered that loneliness and lonely people do things to a person that you would not expect and that if perhaps the person was not so lonely what would have
happened.

I think I can safely say London changed me, I like to think for the better I discovered  people can like me for me craziness and hyperness. I discovered not everyone is going to like you and you can't do anything about it but you are going to be around them and you just have to find a way to deal with it, I discovered good people can do things that are  not so good but they still are good people even so. I found out i could hang out on my own and be completely  content and I discover how real and saddening the feeling of loneliness can be and unexpected things come from it.

Concert time : Biffy Clyro

Fun fact of the day: Up until the 27th June I had never been to a concert before. 4 years ago I did get tickets to go to Oxygen, but instead I went to America for the summer (I think that was a good choice, but still).Anyway when I saw Biffy Clyro were playing The Marquee and I was thinking about if I'd go, but I didn't want to ask anyone to go with me I don't like asking people to do things like that, it's not cheap and.. I don't know I just don't. But then I saw Abbys' video about going to a concert on my own, and I took it as a sign.

Finally Friday arrives. I did start getting really excited especially at the walk up to the Marquee, for some reason I didn't realise what a Marquee would look like. eejit dot com. The support act I saw were plastic rose and they got everyone riled up. At 9 the band arrived and the place erupted.
Seeing as I hadn't been to a concert before it was my first time experiencing the feeling of seeing these singers and seeing them react and play off from the energy of the crowd. I'm almost sad it took me this long to feel it and sing and experience it to be honest. Even when it was just Simon and the lights down singing, or seeing bubbles in the crowd as 'Bubbles' was performed. It has only been a few days but every time I've heard their songs on my iPhone I can't help but smile and get that feeling again. And now I feel like I can wear a BC t-shirt, almost as if I am a proper legit fan. Yay
